Abstract: <\/SPAN><\/P>

This dataset displays stormwater network main, facility pipe and culvert assets within the Waimakariri District (WDC) area. This data is collected to support the maintenance and management of WDC's stormwater network. This layer includes fields that classify, e.g., material, length, diameter etc.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

A Pipe, in general terms, represents a group of asset types that can be categorised by the following definition \u2013 \u2018A man-made, hollow tube used for the transmission of water\u2019.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Pipes can be used for a variety of purposes including:<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

- Delivering potable water to network users<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

- Conveying stormwater and wastewater to treatment facilities and outfalls<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

- Ducting used to enclose pipes or other linear asset<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Pipe asset types include conduit, ventilation pipe, culvert, facility pipe, manifold, network main, service line, subsoil drain and tunnel.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Facility Pipe: the reticulation pipework within a Council facility headwork's site that connects to plant assets. The site pipework stops at the headwork's facility boundary where it becomes a network main.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Network Main: a reticulation pipe that forms part of the 3 Waters network supply. These distribution networks consist of larger trunk mains and smaller sub mains that service the community delivering potable water, wastewater and stormwater services (the \"Three Waters\") that form the network supply schemes.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Culvert: a pipe structure that allows a watercourse to flow under a road, railway, embankment, or similar obstruction from one side to the other side. They are typically embedded so as to be surrounded by soil with just the ends visible. Culverts are most commonly used to connect open channels or watercourses.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

This is joined to a spatial dataset containing the location of each asset and published as a GIS feature layer for use within WDC GIS applications, Before U Dig, and open data portal.
