Abstract:

This dataset displays wastewater service connection assets within the Waimakariri District (WDC) area. This data is collected to support the maintenance and management of WDC's wastewater network. This layer includes fields that classify, e.g., box type, diameter, valve type etc.

A Service Connection asset, in general terms, represents a group of asset types that can be categorised by the following term – ‘Assets related to the interface between the Council network and private connections (or networks), although noting in some cases (RPZ backflow preventer) the service connection asset may be just downstream from the interface.

The service connection asset group can represent a variety of assets including:

- Water meter boxes (including all associated components) on a property boundary. These may also be referred to as ‘water tobies’

- Backflow preventers, which can either be part of the water meter box, or may be a separate asset downstream of the water meter box

- Tanker filling points or fire connections on the water supply network.

- The demarcation point on a gravity service lines (or laterals) that defines where private ownership begins

Where multiple assets (e.g. backflow preventers, isolation valves, restrictor) are contained in a single box these are represented by a single asset. However, multiple boxes (e.g. where a backflow preventer is in a separate box or location to the water toby) are to be recorded as multiple assets.

Service Connection asset types include on demand water connection, STEP sewer connection, pressure sewer connection, restricted water connection, tanker filling point, fire connection, gravity connection, stockwater connection and air gap separator.

Air Gap Separator: a device to prevent backflows by creating a physical separation, or air gap, between a supply pipeline and a receiving vessel. Commonly used in flush tanks on a wastewater network.

Gravity Connection: a gravity fed service lateral supply connection from the private property to the local authority supply main connection point. Gravity connections are used for sewer or stormwater service lines primarily. The point should be located at the demarcation point between the Council service line and the private lateral. This is normally located at the property boundary.

Pressure Sewer Connection: the boundary kit or valve from where a private on-site pump station with a grinder pump that grinds the raw wastewater into a slurry before pumping it into the local authority supply main. The asset should be located where there is a boundary kit installed. Where there is no boundary kit it should be located at the demarcation point between the Council service line and the private lateral. Includes box (if installed) and all associated fittings such as manifold, isolation valve etc.

Septic Tank Effluent Pump (STEP) Sewer Connection: the boundary kit or valve from where a private septic tank chamber with electric pumps to pump the effluent from the private property through a service lateral to the local authority supply main. Where there is no boundary kit, the asset should be located at the demarcation point between the Council service line and the private lateral. Includes box (if installed) and all associated fittings such as manifold, isolation valve etc.

Data has been compiled from a number of sources and its accuracy may vary (e.g. Field Verification, Deposited Plans, AsBuilt plans and forms, sketches, aerial photo, Google Street View). Attribute information is stored in Waimakariri District Council's Asset Management System. This is joined to a spatial dataset containing the location of each asset and published as a GIS feature layer for use within WDC GIS applications, Before U Dig, and open data portal. There may be delays before data is updated to reflect changes in an area.

This layer shows wastewater service connection features registered with Waimakariri District Council (WDC).
Wastewater Service Connections
Waimakariri District Council", "WDC", "Three Waters", "3 Waters", "Infrastructure", "Utilities", "Services", "Underground Services", "Wastewater", "Service Connection", "Toby
