They are comprised of overhead and underground conducting lines of either copper or aluminium. In NZ these High Voltage (HV) transmission lines operate at kiloVoltages (kV) of 220kV and 350kV. (Transmission Line is not a topological network.) (Spans are a sub-set of the Transmission Lines data set. Spans record the structure from / to and the length between the structures). <statement>Data Collection As early as the 1930's Structures were surveyed and recorded in Route, Plan &amp; Profile drawings (technical drawings) with the transmission lines strung between them. These drawings are in either NZ Map Grid or NZ Transverse Mercator (from 2006). From 2002, the Structures coordinates that have changed (e.g. structures have been moved, upgraded, modified) have been updated using Aerial LIDAR Survey. Source The ALS provides source data (point clouds) which feeds into Power Line Survey (PLS) CADD (database where structure and line data is held) from which Route Plan &amp; Profile drawings are produced. The Route Plan &amp; Profile drawings contain the span lengths, ground elevation, structure heights, span sag. Data Storage Structure coordinates are loaded into the MMS database from Power Line Survey (PLS) CADD outputs. The transmission lines (which are made from the span records) are created using; the structure ID to form a From/To attribute and the Route, Plan &amp; Profile drawings. Accuracy The ALS accuracy of the points in a point cloud are +/-0.15m. The absolute external positional accuracy of the transmission lines (and spans) depends on the positional accuracy of the structures dataset , which is the following, data captured by Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) is +/- 0.150m. Remaining data has a maximum accuracy of up to +/- 10m The percentage of data capture by LIDAR in unknown. Fitness for Purpose The Transmission Line data set is fit for Transpower's purpose to support design, construction and maintenance activities.</statement>
