Description: Abstract:This dataset displays stock water races within the Waimakariri District (WDC) area. The Council operates a water race network supplying stockwater to farmers on land between the Ashley (Rakahuri) and the Waimakariri Rivers, and east of Burnt Hill and Oxford and west of Rangiora and Eyreton. The stock water network is a system of approximately 758kms of open races that run through the District, servicing about 1,670 properties to provide water to stock. The race network has its main intake point at Brown Rock on the Waimakariri River. The Stockwater Race Bylaw 2019 details the rules to protect the water race network.Maintenance of part of the Council's water race network is contracted out to Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd, on behalf of Council. Maintenance of races on private property is the responsibility of the property owner.More information about stock water races can be found on the Stock Water Race Fact Sheet.Update Frequency:PeriodicallyPoint of Contact:Waimakariri District Council

The Council only carries out its drainage function within these boundaries, and only properties within the areas are rated for drainage. The drainage and stockwater activity management plans (AMPs) gather together information on the assets for each drainage scheme and identify any scheme management issues. Each AMP includes improvement plans specific to each scheme.Update Frequency:Periodically.Point of Contact:Waimakariri District CouncilLineage:Data has been compiled from a number of sources and its accuracy may vary (e.g. Field Verification, Deposited Plans, AsBuilt plans and forms, sketches, aerial photo, Google Street View).
