The Coastal Marine Area Boundary (CMA) along the line of Mean High Water Springs (MHWS) and where it coincides with a river or stream, a distance of either one kilometre upstream from the mouth or a distance equivalent to five times the mouth of the river upstream.,MHWS has not been surveyed on the Canterbury coast. Therefore, this indicative line cannot be used as a legally defined line due to the margin of error involved. In the event of any dispute as to the precise location of the line of MHWS Environment Canterbury undertakes to establish the line for that specific area.Update Frequency:As needed.Point of Contact:Waimakariri District Council.Lineage:The areas in this Schedule are defined through the use of New Zealand Map Series grid referencesdelineating the boundaries of the relevant area within the Coastal Marine Area. The grid references are givento the nearest 100 metres. In some cases these grid references do not provide sufficient accuracy to exactlydesignate the area. This is because the line defining the boundary of the area may not start or end at a gridreference on shore exactly at the boundary of the Coastal Marine Area. Where the line crosses the CoastalMarine Area boundary the area is fully defined. However, where the line defining the boundary of an areafalls short of the boundary of the Coastal Marine Area, the relevant grid reference shall be interpreted asbeing the nearest point at the boundary of the Coastal Marine Area.
